Architect's rendering of the proposed building at 2301 Westwood

2301 Westwood: PROJECT ABANDONED

The proposed apartment building project at 2301 Westwood Boulevard has been abandonded by the owner, which means that any and all previous approvals for development on the site are now null and void.  Read the official notice HERE.

WSSM understands that the owner’s decision to abandon the project was in response to a lawsuit filed by Fix the City – a local non-profit dedicated to protecting public safety and quality of life in Los Angeles – which challenged the lawfullneess of the incentives granted to the project under the City’s TOC program.  Fix the City’s position is that:

  • Incentives granted previously by the City Planning Department for this project (and many others across the city) go far beyond the scope of the incentives mandated by voters when Measuree JJJ was passed in 2016.
  • In particular, the TOC program grants developers additional height and reduced setback incentives that were not part of the Measure JJJ incentives package and are therefore not voter-mandated.
  • The City Planning Department is not authorized to make alterations/additons to Measure JJJ (or any ballot initiative for that matter) without returning to the voters.

We will remain in close contact with the owner’s representatives and will keep you updated when and if we learn of any revised proposals for the site.
